Kenny Edwards was an award-winning athlete who believes in teamwork first and foremost.  He believes in building and maintaining a respectable and competitive basketball program through discipline, hard work, and team unity.  Every member of the team is valuable and only by working together can any team achieve success. Kenny demands and motivates in equal measure to ensure every member of the team, including himself, gives intensity, hustle, and hard work.  Though the style of basketball he teaches is fast paced, it is based on sound fundamentals, including an understanding of the game and an explanation of what it takes to win.  Player development through detailed instruction is also another key item in building a successful team.  Kenny has over 20 years of coaching experience, Current Heads men’s Basketball Coach, a very successful run as a Head Coach at the collegiate level on both men and women side.   He has also served as Assistant Lay Coach, AAU Coach, a college recruiter, and a Director of Player Development. He is operator of West Georgia Showcase where West Georgia College prospects have the opportunity to showcase their talents to Colleges. His love of basketball brought him to Snead State Community College where he played graduating with an Associate’s Degree.  From there, he went on to finish both his basketball and educational careers at Jacksonville State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Kenny will graduate with his Master in Health and Physical Education in 2022 from Jacksonville State University. Kenny is credentialed and licensed in Leadership Development and a certified Vertimax trainer. He is also certified in many other business, Performance Development, and Coaching Credentialing that helps be the best he can be in Leadership role.  Kenny’s immediate goal for the team is to encourage the student athletes to practice hard, win as many games as possible, and go on to win their region.  With the help of excellent assistants, he and the staff will educate the athletes on how to effectively and efficiently practice on their own. They will teach the athletes the proper techniques for their specific positions, and through practice, repetition, and one-on-one coaching, these players will develop the skills they need to be their absolute best on the court. He will continue to educate his players to be Champions in their Three C’s: Classroom, Community, and Court.  One of Kenny’s main long-term goals is to help the student athletes reach their potential off the court as well.  By stressing the importance of having a solid education and sharing his own experiences on and off the court, he hopes to create well-rounded individuals.  Opening their eyes to improving their own quality of life will lead into them improving the quality of life in the communities in which they live, work, and play.  He hopes his own commitment to the community and his volunteer work will serve as inspiration to these future community leaders and workers. Through his years of coaching, he has had the opportunity and privilege to develop strong relationships with the student athletes, resulting in positive life changes.  His success is determined by the pride and satisfaction in what the student athlete and he accomplish together. HIs philosophy on discipline, hard work, and team unity has paid dividends for numerous student athletes over the years by advancing their playing, educational, and professional careers. When Kenny is not on the court enjoying his love of basketball and helping others, he is home helping his wife, April, with their daughters, Claire (12) and Harper (8).
