I am originally from Sparks, Ga. 20 minutes north of Valdosta, Ga. I am a graduate of Morehouse College where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and ran Track and threw Shot Put, Discus and Javelin for the Maroon Tigers. I received my Master of Teaching Education degree from University of Phoenix. I obtained my PLTW Biomedical STEM certification at the University of Kentucky. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). I am also a certified USA Track & Field Level II Coach. Before teaching Strength and Conditioning, I taught Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry and Biomedical STEM. As a STEM teacher, I was part of the STEM PLC that worked to aid Lithia Springs High School in becoming the first school in Southeast to be State and Internationally STEM certified.
As a Track coach, I’ve coached a #1 Nationally ranked Triple Jumper and three-time 5A State Triple Jump Champion; a 5A State High Jump Runner-Up; a #3 Nationally ranked Long Jumper, two-time 5A State Long Jump Champion and a two-time State GRPA Shot-Put champion as well as several other student-athletes who finished in the top 5 of State finishers in multiple events: Girls High jump, Girls 100m, Girls 100m Hurdles, Girls 300m Hurdles, Girls Shot Put, Boys Shot Put, Boys 1600m, Boys 200m, Boys 400m and Boys 4 x 100m relay.
I am married to the Hall-of-Famer Sandy (Ackey) Walton, a graduate of Central High School. We have three intelligent, humble and athletic boys; Juliuz, Jonaz and Jacez.
My name is Ethan Caldwell; I teach Science and coach Track & Field as well as Cross Country here at Central High School. I was born and raised right down the road in Heard County, where I graduated in 2015. From there, I went to the other end of Highway 27 and received my Bachelor's degree in Biology & Secondary Education from Berry College in Rome, GA. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Biological Sciences at Clemson University.
During my time at both Heard County and Berry, I had the opportunity to compete in Track & Field, with my specialty being in the pole vault. Additionally, I had the opportunity to serve in various capacities with nonprofit organizations, ranging anywhere from summer camps, to after school programs for elementary school children, and even volunteering as a coach. Through these experiences, I discovered that I have a passion for building relationships and helping others cultivate their own potential to pursue their goals; this is a major reason for why I am a teacher today.
